Food Shopping for the Environment
March 14 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm$5
Learn about the benefits of eating seasonal and local food, minimising packaging & making environmentally wise supermarket choices.
Do you want to learn how you can improve your health and the environment through your food shopping choices?
In this 1.5-hour workshop you will learn how to confidently identify and eat seasonal, local, and less packaged foods including how to navigate the supermarket and identify greenwashing on common food labels.
We will explore how aligning our eating habits with seasonal produce will improve our overall health and simultaneously reduce our carbon footprint. We also establish an understanding of how food miles form a crucial element of a more sustainable diet, as we break down the hidden miles found in many of our common food choices. We will equip you with the knowledge to make choices that support local farmers and food producers, while also reducing the greenhouse gas emissions of the food you choose to eat.
You will learn how to identify, assess, and reduce the environmental impact of packaging materials and discovers ways to minimize your waste through clever choices at the supermarket before we summarise all our learnings into a holistic approach to choosing sustainable products at the supermarkets.
Whether you’re new to sustainable eating or looking to deepen your knowledge, this session will leave you with the knowledge and skills needed to shop in a way that benefits your health and the planet.
This workshop is presented by Hannah Bres (Green Nutrition Australia) on behalf of the City of Swan and Switch Your Thinking. All funds received from this event will go towards a prize draw where you have the chance to win an induction cooktop. Those who attend are automatically entered into the draw.
