What is Personal Information and What types Do We Collect?
Personal Information is information or an opinion that identifies an individual. Examples of Personal Information we collect include: names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, Insurance documentations and Curriculum Vitae (where necessary).
Statement on the Collection of Personal Information
The Switch Your Thinking (SYT) Program collects personal information for a variety of purposes including:
- General Mailing List
- E-Newsletter subscription list
- Monthly Sustainability SMS Tip Distribution List
- Online & Face to Face Community Workshop and Event Registrations
- Community & Business Surveys
- Project Work
- Workshop Facilitator and Community Program Applications.
- User and Service Level Agreements
If you choose not to provide the requested information, the Switch Your Thinking Program may be unable to support you to participate.
The Switch Your Thinking program may use and disclose your personal information for the purpose described above, for related purposes that you would reasonably expect, and where authorised or required by law. This may include disclosure to the City of Armadale, the City of Gosnells, Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale and third parties such as the Switch Your Thinking programs insurers, contractors or service providers engaged to support the delivery, of the purposes described above
Where information is provided through an online platform, the information you provide will be transmitted to and stored within the Switch Your Thinking Programs approved information systems and those of its contracted service providers.
The Switch Your Thinking program does not ordinarily disclose personal information to third parties or outside Australia. Where disclosure to third parties or outside Australia is necessary, the Switch Your Thinking Program will take reasonable steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place and that the disclosure is consistent with applicable privacy obligations as detailed.
Sensitive Information
Sensitive information is defined in the Privacy Act 1988 to include information or opinion about such things as an individual’s racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, membership of a political association, religious or philosophical beliefs, membership of a trade union or other professional body, criminal record or health information.
Sensitive information will be used by us only; for the primary purpose for which it was obtained, for a secondary purpose that is directly related to the primary purpose, or with your consent, or where required or authorised by law.
Disclosure of Personal Information
Your Personal Information may be disclosed in a number of circumstances including; by third parties where you consent to the use or disclosure and where required or authorised by law.
Maintaining the Quality of Your Personal Information
It is important to us that your Personal Information is up to date. We will take reasonable steps to make sure that your Personal Information is accurate, complete and up-to-date. If you find that the information we have is not up to date or is inaccurate, please advise us as via email mail@switchyourthinking.com as soon as practicable so we can update our records and ensure we can continue to provide quality services to you.

Relevant Legislation and Privacy Policy's
- State Privacy Legislation: Government of Western Australia, Department of Justice Parliamentary Counsel’s Office Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing (PRIS) Act 2024. The PRIS Act (2024) regulates how Western Australian public sector agencies and contracted service providers collect, use, store and share personal information.
- Federal Privacy Legislation: The Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (the Privacy Act) contains 13 key principles, which govern the way in which Switch Your Thinking collects, use, disclose, stores, secures and disposes of your Personal Information. A copy of the Australian Privacy Principles may be obtained from the website of The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
- Local Government Privacy Policy: All personal information collected by the Switch Your Thinking program is done so in compliance with the City of Armadale’s Privacy Policy, Privacy and Information Sharing Policy and Privacy Statement. This is because the City of Armadale manages all storage of personal information on behalf of the Switch Your Thinking programs governing body the South East Regional Energy Group (SEREG).
- Third Party Platform Privacy Policy’s: The Switch Your Thinking program utilises a number of third party online platforms to assist with the collation of personal information, event registrations, survey’s, program applications, EOI’s etc. These platforms are listed below along with a direct link to their own Privacy Policy’s.
