Keeping Chickens for Beginners

June 29 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

$5

Chickens are a great way to reduce your food waste, get eggs, dig your garden and they make great pets too!

Come along to this workshop to learn about the basics of chicken keeping including:

  • Your Local Government requirements for chicken keeping.
  • Building a predator proof coop
  • Soil and egg testing and why this is important.
  • What to feed them for health and egg production.
  • Common ailments and how to prevent disease and parasites.
  • How to integrate chickens into your garden systems.
  • Sources of good chicken keeping information.

And most importantly… what to name them!

There will be time for Q and A after the presentation for you to ask specific questions and get answers to build your confidence to start your chicken keeping journey at home. Your workshop facilitator is Sarah McCabe. She is an enthusiastic backyard chicken keeper of over 10 years and ran a zero waste chicken feed business.

This workshop is hosted by the City of Melville in partnership with Switch your Thinking. All funds received from this event will go towards a prize draw where you have the chance to win an induction cooktop. Those who attend are entered into the draw.

Please note that should you need to cancel, we require at least 24 hours notice to issue a refund. Please also be aware that the refund will not be the full amount as ticket fees are included in the price.
