Learn how to make a thriving veggie garden and produce delicious food at home!
Do you want to start a veggie garden but have no idea where to start?
Well, this is the workshop for you!
There are some basic guidelines that gardeners must follow to grow vegetables. Issues such as soil, light, water and food requirements of vegetables need to be addressed to guarantee success.
Participants will learn how easy it is to get started growing their own vegetables and creating food security, starting small in containers and advancing as confidence builds.
Topics covered in this workshop include soil health and soil preparation, what to grow and when, choosing seeds or seedlings, and information about fertiliser and dealing with pests.
After this session you will have the confidence and the know-how to build a thriving veggie garden at home.
Bring your family along and get motivated by all the tasty ingredients you could grow at home to boost your cooking and save money on the grocery shop. Or why not start a monthly home grown potluck with your friends where everyone brings a dish created using their garden produce for a fun and sustainable dinner party.
This workshop is presented by Robyn Brown (Waste is my Resource) on behalf of Switch Your Thinking and the Town of Bassendean. All funds received from this event will go towards a sustainability prize draw where you have the chance to win an induction cooktop. Those who attend are automatically entered into the draw.
This is the first workshop of two held in the Bassendean Community Hall on the 9th of March. After the workshop there will be morning tea provided and then the second session begins at 2:30pm and will discuss planting verge gardens and how you can do it.
