Swap Don’t Shop! Children’s Clothing (Part 2 – Swap Event)
May 18 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
$1 – $2Have your kids outgrown their clothes? Join the movement to reduce textile waste in landfill by participating in the Swap – Don’t Shop! Children’s Clothing Event.
The Swap- Don’t Shop! Children’s Clothing event has been designed to support the community’s exploration of slow fashion. It is estimated that Australians buy 14.8kg of clothing every year, equating to around 56 new items per person per year. Of this, approximately 30% is disposed of in landfill within the first year of purchase, emitting methane and leaching chemicals from dyed garments.
Embracing slow, upcycled fashion shifts our relationship with clothing consumption, encouraging us to be responsible, sustainable consumers by extending the life of clothing (and shoes) and keeping materials in circulation, rather than in landfill. Recirculating an item of clothing for nine months can reduce its associated CO2 emissions by 27%, and waste by 22%.
This is a two part event.
