WA Elected Members Network on Sustainability – Switch Your Thinking

Join Switch Your Thinking for a discussion on the various opportunities & challenges local governments have in the sustainability space.
Welcome to the WA Elected Members Network on Sustainability – Switch Your Thinking event! Join us on Saturday November 9th from 2:00pm at Thornlie Park Centre at this (in-person and online) event which offers a great opportunity to network with like-minded individuals and learn about innovative ways to encourage and support sustainability in our communities.
During the session, Switch Your Thinking Program Coordinator Kerry Wilson will share an overview of Switch Your Thinking’s evolution over the past 22 years, and details of some of Switch Your Thinkings current projects including an Energy Efficiency Pilot Program it is rolling out to local governments across Western Australia on behalf of the WA Government.
Kerry will also outline the increasingly critical role councils play in the sustainability space, both relating to the roles of elected members and organisational personnel, and provide a glimpse of what is to come in terms of climate action and climate-related financial reporting.
Dr Peter Devereux will also facilitate a discussion about how Switch your thinking engages with the task of switching Elected Members mindsets and ‘mental models’. This is aimed at teasing out what people consider is the best way to actively engage Councils and Elected Members with the goal of not just solving technical problems, but tackling the deeper barriers and opportunities to embedding sustainability in the hearts and minds of councils and communities.
During the session, there will be plenty of opportunity for attendees to share their insights and ask questions.
