Youth Kitchen: Sustainable Cooking (15-21yrs)

Join this youth cooking class to learn about food waste, safety and storage, then create a delicious meal to share with everyone.
In this hands-on cooking class, delivered by Nom! Foodbank WA, participants will explore the fundamentals of food waste, safety and storage. This class is designed to equip young adults with essential culinary skills that will not only help them make smart food choices but also prepare them for independent living as they transition into adulthood. Participants will gain confidence in the kitchen by mastering basic cooking techniques, understanding nutrition, and planning balanced meals. At the end of the class, everyone will come together to prepare and share a wholesome meal, creating a sense of community and reinforcing the importance of cooking for oneself and others. Join us for a fun and informative experience that sets you up for a healthy, self-sufficient future!
For youth aged 15 to 21yrs. Meals are vegetarian and gluten free.
This is a drop and go event, parents of minors will be asked to provide emergency contact details.
This event is part of a 4-workshop series. If you miss this one, there may still be a chance to join the others.
Length
30 minutes of learning with 1 hour of cooking and extra time to eat and enjoy.

Event activities will start on time, but if you are running late, you may still join.

Requirements
Comfortable clothes, closed in shoes and please tie up long hair.
Type of event and expectations
Young adult workshop space– Guests are expected to follow instructions of the program facilitator and be respectful at all times. Participants must be capable of following safety instructions. Parents of minors must provide contact information and be available to collect their children upon request.
Accessibility
Standing with chairs available, fine motor skills required for some activities.

Please consider using public transportation. A bus stop, just a 2-minute walk away, is conveniently located near the Centre and services multiple routes.
The Centre is located at 555 Leach Highway, Winthrop in the Piney Lakes reserve. To reach us, if heading westbound, take the first left after Murdoch Drive on Leach Highway. If coming from the Fremantle area, continue on Leach Hwy across Murdoch Drive and use the designated U-turn just after the lights to move to the westbound lanes. Go back through the lights at Murdoch Drive and take the first left. Please park in the signed public carpark.
