Natural dyeing with flowers and leaves

November 29, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

Let your creativity shine this year and learn Hapa Zome to spruce up your holiday cards!

Hapa Zome is the Japanese technique of pounding botanical materials (leaves, flowers, petals) into fabric or paper to leave an imprint.

A beautiful technique for creating Christmas cards with a nature theme.  You can also use this technique to dye fabric for use as Furoshiki gift wrapping (another of the Christmas workshops offered by the City of Gosnells) or perhaps you might design some napkins for your family celebrations.

In this workshop you will learn the Hapa Zome technique with our talented presenter, artist Miriam Atkinson. You will create your own designs on paper and fabric to take home, and, hopefully, be inspired to create your own botanical prints at home.

Steer away from chemical dyes used in traditional printed materials and create works of art made from nature!

Please bring along some of your own favourite petals, flowers, foliage and leaves for use in your project. Perhaps you have a special plant you’d like to use in your design, something from your own garden maybe. Make sure your botanicals are ‘fresh & juicy’, they will leave the best imprint.

Materials will be provided on the day, but it’s lovely to create a design with something you’ve grown or that is special to you.
