Thinking Green: Sustainably stylish presentation & clothes swap
February 18 @ 10:30 am - 12:30 pmFree
Join the Style Counsellor for an inspiring presentation about fashion, then refresh your wardrobe at the Clothes swap run by the EMRC. Please note that this is a program for adults and young people aged 12 and over and is a presentation and clothes swap. Photographs and videos may be taken of the event. Please book one ticket for each person attending.
Style guru, sustainability and mental-health activist Ciara Lowe-Thiedeman leads with joyful conviction and a vulnerability in her work which is changing lives all over Perth. This London-trained award-winning personal stylist is shaking up the world of sustainable personal style through successful keynotes, presentations, and one on one coaching sessions.
Let the Style Counsellor teach you how to become sustainably stylish, to re-think and reduce textile waste and consider how to BUY LESS. BUY BETTER, LOOK BETTER AND DO BETTER. Sustainability and style are not mutually exclusive.
In her presentation, Ciara will present on the Autumn Winter 2023 upcoming trends and how to recreate trends sustainably. She will also share her expertise on how to dress trans-seasonally and how to get more bang for your buck using what you already own.
The Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) will be hosting a Clothes Swap after the presentation – bring along the items you don’t wear anymore (lurkers) and swap them for preloved, new to your items (workers) to refresh your wardrobe.
Did you know that the average Australian woman buys 27kg of clothes in one year and throws out about 23kg? 800,000 tonnes of clothing are discarded in Australia each year, with roughly 90% ending up in landfill! The EMRC want to change that.
Check your wardrobe for items you don’t wear anymore and bring them along to swap them for items you will wear. You can bring as much as you like as long as it is in good wearable condition and take as many or as few as you like. We accept all styles and sizes of women’s and men’s clothing and shoes, handbags, jewellery, and accessories. Items can be hung on hangers or brought in a reusable shopping bag that you can then use to take new items home!
More details about the Clothes Swap will be provided after registration.
